Moldova Works to Meet EU Egg Standards
The Republic of Moldova lacks an economic agent authorised to export eggs to the European Union.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Vladimir Bolea, stated that no applications have been submitted so far.
The Minister believes this delay stems from the country's recent acquisition of export rights; farmers have not had sufficient time to invest in modernising their facilities to meet EU standards.
“The process involves two components," Bolea explained. "State authorization – ANSA has the required laboratories, protocols, and processes aligned with EU requirements – and the authorization process is underway. However, to my knowledge, applications haven't been submitted. Since 2014, delays in obtaining national authorization discouraged farmers from investing in the necessary upgrades, as it seemed unlikely this right would ever be granted."
In March, the Republic of Moldova obtained the right to export processed poultry meat and eggs to the European Union following modifications to two European Commission regulations from 2021.
According to the National Food Safety Agency, the Republic of Moldova has 43 poultry factories and approximately 227,000 individual poultry farms.
