German Foreign Minister's Ukraine Visit Disrupted by Drone Threat
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock had to cut short her visit to Nikolaiev after her motorcade was tracked by a Russian drone, the BBC reports.
Bild correspondent Nadia Aswad, accompanying Baerbock, said the convoy was heading toward a desalination plant on the Black Sea, 50 kilometres from the front line.
"On the way to the plant, a Russian reconnaissance drone approached the convoy. This often signals an impending airstrike," Bild reports via Telegram.
Ukrainian members of the delegation triggered an alarm on their smartphones, and drivers successfully evaded the drone.
ZDF journalists add that the visit's cancellation was confirmed by the German Foreign Ministry. The Ministry advised delegation members to move into armoured vehicles.
The air raid alert in Nikolaiev was later cancelled. Baerbock was also forced to spend Saturday evening in an Odessa air raid shelter due to a similar threat.
