Russia launched a drone attack on several regions of Ukraine on the very night of Resurrection
Russia launched a drone attack on the Kharkiv region in the early hours of May 5. Several explosions were reported in the city, and at least three residential houses in the city were set on fire by debris from the downing of the drones. A 60-year-old man was also injured in the attack.
Russia has recently stepped up attacks against the Kharkiv region, using rockets, cruise bombs and drones to destroy energy infrastructure and kill civilians. According to Ukrainian authorities, on the night of May 5, Russia attacked Ukraine with 24 Iranian-made Shahed drones, 23 of which were destroyed by Ukrainian air defenses.
Unmanned vehicles were destroyed in Kharkiv, Kherson and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
In late March, Russia destroyed all power stations in Kharkiv, leaving Ukraine's second-largest city without a stable power source. Meanwhile, US President National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said Ukraine will try to launch a new counteroffensive in 2025 after it had received more than $60 billion in military aid from the United States. He said he still expects "short-term Russian gains" on the battlefield, despite the new US aid package approved last month.
But with the help of new aid from Washington, Kiev will be able to "hold its defense" and "ensure that Ukraine resists the Russian attack" during 2024, he added.
Earlier Sullivan admitted that the Armed Forces lost some of the territories in the east, in particular, Avdiivka, due to the delay in approving aid to Ukraine.
