Fierce fighting in Ukraine: Russia announces that it seized another village, and Zelensky - the damage in Kharkiv

At least five people were injured in today's shelling of the town of Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi. This was reported by the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Sinehubov. An ambulance and a civilian car were also damaged.

Also, an explosion was reported in the Ukrainian city of Chernihiv at around 2pm today as air raid sirens sounded across the region.

Air raid alert was also activated in Kyiv, Cherkasy, Poltava, Sumi and Kharkiv regions. Ukraine's Air Force warned that the Russian military could attack using tactical aviation.

Meanwhile, the Russian army claimed on Saturday to capture the town of Arkhangelskoye in the Donetsk region. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not comment on this loss, according to Meduza.io.

"Units of the central group of troops liberated the village of Arkhangelskoye following successful combat operations," the Russian Defense Ministry announced in its daily report.

On May 10, the Russian army launched an offensive in the Kharkiv region in the northeast, capturing several towns and forcing Ukraine to send reinforcements to the area. Kiev, however, claimed on May 24 that Russian troops were "stuck" in the sector and that their progress had been "halted".

On May 25, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the losses suffered by the Russian army during the offensive in the Kharkiv region amounted to eight Russian soldiers for one Ukrainian. "One Ukrainian for eight Russians, but Putin does not care about his people, both civilians and military," the Kiev leader said, according to Radio Svoboda. The statements have not been commented so far by the Kremlin.
