Moldova Fast-Tracks Ukrainian Grain Transit

Ukrainian cereals transported through Moldova under a transit regime will remain exempt from inspection by the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA).

The Moldovan Parliament voted in favour of a draft law introducing this exemption during its first reading.

The legislation proposes an exemption from certain provisions of Moldova's Law on Plant Protection and Phytosanitary Quarantine. Specifically, it exempts Ukrainian cereals from inspection by ANSA if they are transported through designated state border crossing points: Giurgiulești-Reni (entry) and Giurgiulești-Galați (exit). The exemption also applies to Ukrainian cereals transported by rail under a transit regime. This exemption will be valid until September 14, 2024.

Moldovan lawmakers believe this exemption will expedite the movement of non-animal origin goods across the Moldovan border and alleviate congestion at entry and exit points, which has increased due to the surge in Ukrainian goods transiting the country.

The draft law outlining this exemption will now proceed to Parliament for a second reading.
