Empowering Moldova's Youth for Good Governance
The hundred participants, including young people from abroad, gathered in Balți for the Moldova Youth Forum (MYF) 2024.
The theme of this edition is "Empowering young people for good governance." In the event's opening, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, delivered a message to the participants, emphasising the importance of courage, gratitude, and hard work on their path to success.
"I will not tell you clichés like the age you are living now is unrepeatable. Every age is unrepeatable. The difference is that you have a life ahead to discover," declared President Sandu.
She emphasised the need to step boldly toward the future and to learn from mistakes and obstacles. "Maybe you will reach high on your first try, maybe you will stop halfway and help someone in need, maybe you will choose another path... But always proceed with boldness and responsibility," she continued.
During the forum, participants will engage in panel discussions and practical workshops, encouraging young people to get involved in formulating public policies to address societal challenges.
President Sandu concluded her message with a clear call to action: "Make a plan, maybe you already have one... but beyond the individual plan, choose to be part of a bigger plan. Our plan is to build a truly good Moldova for all young people. We can achieve this plan, but we all need your help."
Prime Minister Dorin Recean also spoke to the young people. The head of the government in Chișinău emphasised that how we will live in the future is linked to how we act in the present.
"I believe the future belongs to you. Our future depends on us, on how we build alliances, on how we build relationships with friends, on how we know to defend ourselves when there are risks. (...) In just two years since being granted candidate country status, we have managed to move to the negotiation stage and it is our task to transform this opportunity into reality, and I thank you for getting involved in such events. Young people have a duty to get involved, and our role begins here: to decide to participate in these important decisions for the country and to involve others. This is a crucial role in a society that wants to move forward united," emphasised the Prime Minister.
According to EU4Moldova, the Moldova Youth Forum 2024 represents a continuous commitment to empowering young people from the Republic of Moldova and providing them with a platform to create connections and influence national policies. At the end, participants will adopt a resolution addressing the needs of young people. The event takes place on June 29-30.
