Romanian Aviation Day, marked with an air show and laying of flowers in memory of the aviator heroes
Bucharest hosted an air show on the occasion of the Romanian Aviation and Air Force Day, celebrated annually on July 20, by Saint Elijah, the patron saint of pilots.
Dozens of aircraft and helicopters flew over the city, and a special show took place at the Monument to the Heroes of the Air in Bucharest.
During today's day, a military and religious ceremony was organized in Bucharest, which was followed by the laying of wreaths in memory of the aviator heroes.
For the safe conduct of the event, traffic stopped on several streets. Romanian F-16 planes and the Finnish F-18s, which perform the NATO Air Police service at the Kogălniceanu base flew on the sky of Bucharest, the Romanian Ministry of Defense informed.
Romanian military aviation was created in 1910, and the first military plane was designed by Aurel Vlaicu.
