Lebanese government calls for US intervention to restrain Israel after the attack on a soccer field
The Lebanese government asks the United States of America (USA) to urge Israel to restrain, said the Lebanese Foreign Minister, Abdallah Bou Habib, in the context of increasing tensions following the attack of the Hezbollah group on the town of Majdal Shams in Israel, reports Reuters.
Lebanon's foreign minister said the United States had asked the Lebanese government to send a message to the Hezbollah group asking for such restraint.
Hezbollah denied involvement in the attack. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said he did not want to see an escalation of the conflict after Israel accused Hezbollah of killing 12 children and teenagers in a rocket attack in the Golan.
Today, Israel said it would hit the Iran-backed group hard after the incident. The US official said Washington was in talks with Israel about the incident.
The attack happened on Saturday in the town of Majdal Shams in northern Israel. The bombings targeted a soccer field, near a playground. Helicopters, ambulances and intensive care units were sent to the scene.
The toll of the rocket attack rose to 12 dead. Children are among the victims. At least 30 other people were injured.
