Putin addresses security issues amid Ukraine’s Kursk gains
President Vladimir Putin has issued a statement regarding the Russian region where Ukraine has taken over more than 1,000 square kilometres of territory: “Do not blame me,” reports Politico.
Speaking via videoconference at a meeting with Russian politicians, including the governors of the Kursk, Belgorod, and Bryansk regions, Putin declared that the “security problems” in Kursk are “the responsibility of the security forces.”
The Russian president further stated that Moscow will work with “local and regional authorities” and “security agencies” to “play a positive role in achieving our objectives here.”
It should be noted that Kiev's troops launched a surprise offensive into the Kursk region, which borders Ukraine, earlier this month, prompting the regional governor to declare a state of emergency.
According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine has captured over 90 Russian settlements in Kursk.
