CNA reports over one million lei in fines for corruption in Moldova

Fines imposed for passive electoral corruption last week total over one million lei. The National Anticorruption Center (CNA) also reports that, during the same period, searches were conducted in Chișinău and several localities within the Orhei, Rezina, and Nisporeni districts regarding illegal financing of a political party.

More specifically, the CNA announces that it has received several reports from the Police concerning contraventions related to electoral corruption. The institution specifies that it is currently examining the received reports and plans to make decisions based on them.

Following the raids in Chișinău, Orhei, Rezina, and Nisporeni, items were also discovered that demonstrate the involvement and active participation of a group of individuals in actions of electoral corruption and illicit party financing.

Currently, eight individuals arrested in the cases initiated by the CNA are being held in correctional facilities. The CNA further announces that last week, criminal investigation officers resolved nine cases and proposed transferring six cases to court.

It is noteworthy that individuals found guilty of passive electoral corruption face fines of up to 37,500 lei.
