Moldova and U.S. relations poised to strengthen under Trump

The bilateral relations between the Republic of Moldova and the United States of America (USA) are unlikely to be affected by the rise to power of the Trump administration.

On the contrary, given the United States' interest in strengthening its position in the Black Sea region, relations with Chișinău may be further strengthened, according to political expert Andrei Curăraru from WatchDog.

"A conservative government aims to ensure regional stability through diplomatic means," Curăraru explains. "And here, we share these objectives. Moreover, the issue of major U.S. spending is currently irrelevant for the Republic of Moldova, as our European integration process is allowing us to secure more funding from the European Union. I do not anticipate a major shift in U.S. policy towards Moldova, but rather a firmer stance based on U.S. national interests."

It is important to note that the United States is a strategic partner of the Republic of Moldova, as reflected in the new National Security Strategy developed by President Maia Sandu last year. In addition to economic relations, the United States plays a key political role in supporting Moldova's European path and facilitating a peaceful resolution to the Transnistrian conflict.

It is worth noting that Donald Trump, 78 years old, was elected President of the United States, surpassing the 270 electoral votes required to win the presidency. Several European leaders have congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the U.S. presidential elections. European officials, including leaders from other countries, have expressed optimism about working closely with the newly elected U.S. president. Notably, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, also congratulated Donald Trump, expressing her desire to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
