Judge Mariana Ursachi was dismissed after she failed external evaluation
Judge of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ), Mariana Ursachi, who failed the external evaluation, was dismissed from office. A decision to this effect was approved by the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) during the meeting on December 2.
According to the CSM decision, Mariana Ursachi is deprived of the right to exercise the function of judge for a period of 7 years from the date of confirmation of the CSM decision, as well as other public positions. The magistrate is also deprived of the right to get a one-off allowance upon dismissal.
The decision can be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice within 5 days.
We remind you that the Vetting Commission concluded on November 6 that Mariana Ursachi did not meet the criteria of financial and ethical integrity. The analysis included verification of compliance with the tax regime, declaration of assets and personal interests, the method of acquiring and maintaining assets, as well as sources of income. Also, it was examined whether the magistrate had displayed arbitrary behaviour or conflicts of interest incompatible with her position.
According to the commission, the judge was invited to hearings to answer doubts regarding her integrity, but she did not appear. The evaluation was finalized based on the information collected by the Commission.
Magistrate Mariana Ursachi previously came to the attention of the National Integrity Authority (ANI) for possible violations of the legal regime regarding the declaration of assets and personal interests. ANI inspectors found that, between 2014 and 2019, the judge had not correctly declared her assets, including incomplete data about the real value of a Porsche Cayenne car.
