Reintegration Bureau: Tiraspol rejects Chisinau’s proposals to create an energy working group

Tiraspol has rejected Chisinau’s proposals to create an energy working group, consisting of experts from both banks of the Nistru River to identify solutions. The statement was made by representatives of the Reintegration Bureau in a response to the Public Broadcaster “Teleradio-Moldova”, after the so-called foreign ministry in Tiraspol accused the constitutional authorities of having “ignored, for a long period, the worsening situation” in the energy sector.

“The representatives from Tiraspol always seek to blame someone else for their failures and the intentional isolation of the region from all the processes taking place in the Republic of Moldova. To avoid negative social and economic disruptions in the Transnistrian region, Chisinau has never shied away from dialogue with Tiraspol on the existing platforms within the negotiation process for the Transnistrian settlement,” said the officials from the Reintegration Bureau.

The Bureau also states that steps to include economic agents from the Transnistrian region in the legal field of the Republic of Moldova are a priority for the authorities, to restore the single economic and customs space, and to eliminate discrimination that previously existed between economic agents on the two banks of the Nistru.

Also, the authorities emphasize that “European integration does not imply renegotiating international standards,” but rather extending them to the Transnistrian region, so that citizens in the area benefit from the same opportunities as the rest of the inhabitants of the Republic of Moldova.

This is the first time that Tiraspol has made an official response to the energy crisis, which has a direct impact on the Transnistrian region.

We remind you that, starting from January 1, 2025, the Russian gas transit agreement through Ukraine expires, and the delivery of natural gas to the Transnistrian region remains uncertain. The Prime Minister for Reintegration announced this week that residents of the left bank of the Nistru could benefit from the same energy compensation as those on the right bank, if, from January 1, the Russian concern Gazprom interrupts natural gas supplies to the Transnistrian region. He said that Chisinau is ready to provide support, but the gas price will be the market price.
