CMC failed to find a solution for Apă-Canal. Municipal councillors will meet on Friday

City councillors have failed to find a solution to the 73 million lei debt of Apa-Canal Chisinau SA to Premier Energy, and Wednesday is the deadline for the money to be transferred. In case they do not, the supplier reserves the right to disconnect the municipal enterprise from electricity. To avoid such situations, the capital's mayor Ion Ceban has asked the Commission for Exceptional Situations to cover Apă-Canal Chisinau's debts, threatening that otherwise the municipality could run out of water as of tomorrow, 1 February.

CMC will hold another meeting on Wednesday at 1 pm, when members will try to find a solution, says Dinari Cojocari, deputy chairman of the faction of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova.

"We have drafted a decision requesting and allocating a sum of money. For this we proposed to convene the Municipal Council with one draft decision - allocation of money. The meeting should be held tomorrow at 13:00 and until then the relevant committees should be convened," Cojocari said.

Several blocks of the Chisinau Water-Canal Enterprise have already been disconnected from electricity in the capital last week. However, the disconnections from the electricity network, which had been announced by the enterprise "Apă-Canal Chisinau", have been postponed until February 1. Officials of the municipal enterprise say the debts have accumulated because the new water and sewage tariffs were not applied on time. Earlier this month, the tariff for this service increased by more than 40% for the capital's residents.

The executive's representatives told Radio Moldova that the debts to energy suppliers are related to the commercial relations between the two entities, and can be negotiated or rescheduled.
