NBS: The number of foreign tourists who visited our country increased by 20 percent
Last year, 29 thousand tourists visited the Republic of Moldova, by 20 percent more than in 2021. Data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) also show that over 90% of them visited our country for just one day . Also, the number of Moldovans who visited other countries increased by approximately 50 percent.
According to data presented by the National Bureau of Statistics, over 66 percent of foreign tourists preferred to stay in restaurants in Chisinau, as well as in hotels and guesthouses in the south and north of the country. At the same time, last year, through travel agencies and other tourism operators, more than 320 thousand tourists from Moldova went abroad, or by 100 thousand people more than in 2021. Over 50 percent of Moldovan tourists chose Turkey. In the top of preferences are Bulgaria, Romania, Egypt, Greece and Montenegro. Our citizens prefer good rest conditions, but at affordable prices, Ion Curmei, director of a tourism agency in Chisinau, told Radio Moldova. "During the pandemic, people stayed at home a lot and were eager to go on vacation. The prices are relatively good, so the price-quality ratio is very good. Spain was much more expensive. In Italy, likewise, it would be more expensive. That's why Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece are to the taste of Moldovans". According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the receipts of travel agencies and operators in the field last year amounted to 3.3 billion lei, registering an increase of over 40 percent compared to 2021.
