Moldova praised by Kyiv for its results leading the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers

The Republic of Moldova’s performance while leading the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe has received high praise from officials in Kyiv. The Ukrainian Ambassador to Chișinău, Paun Rohovei, congratulated the Moldovan authorities during a meeting with Corina Călugăru, the State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He highlighted the significant role of Moldovan diplomacy in the adoption of the Extended Partial Agreement on the Management Committee of the Special Tribunal, which is designed to prosecute the crime of aggression against Ukraine.

On May 25, two officials discussed the possibility of organizing a meeting at the co-chair level of the Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation to resume its activities.

The officials emphasized the importance of continuing joint projects, including those conducted in the "Odessa Triangle" format, which involves the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, and Romania. They also considered the possibility of organizing a meeting at the prime minister level for the three countries.

Particular attention was given to the European integration processes of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, a topic that consistently appears on the agenda of bilateral dialogues between the two nations.

Additionally, the discussions addressed the security situation in Ukraine, particularly concerning the large-scale air attack launched by the Russian Federation on May 24.

Corina Călugăru reiterated that the Republic of Moldova condemns the Russian Federation's war of aggression against Ukraine and reaffirmed its support for the efforts of Ukrainian authorities and the international community to end the war and achieve a just and lasting peace.

During the 135th ministerial session of the Council of Europe, held on May 14-15 in Chisinau, over 50 foreign delegations participated in the adoption of a resolution establishing a partially expanded agreement to create the Management Committee of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine.

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, along with Mihai Popșoi, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, officially presented the document to Andrii Sybiha, the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Andrii Sybiha emphasized that this decision is the foundation of an accountability infrastructure built on three pillars: the Special Tribunal, the Register of Damages, and the Commission on Damages. He asserted that there would be no compromises in conveying the truth and ensuring that the aggressor is held accountable.

The session also marked the conclusion of the Republic of Moldova's six-month mandate as Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
