Women will be able to work on maternity leave, receiving both allowance and pay. Government changes

Pregnant women will be able to work during maternity leave and receive an allowance at the same time. The Government has approved, at the proposal of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the amendment of the Regulation on the conditions for determining, calculating and paying temporary incapacity benefits.

The Government announces that, according to the new provisions, the maternity allowance will be calculated from the income of one of the insured spouses, which will result in a higher amount of this allowance. It will only be possible to calculate the allowance from the husband's salary if he confirms that he has at least three years of total insurance or at least nine months of insurance during the 24 months preceding the date of the maternity leave.

"With these adjustments, we aim to ensure that the right to maternity benefit is respected also for pregnant women who choose to continue working during their maternity leave," Labour and Social Protection Minister Alexei Buzu was quoted as saying by the government.
