Presidents Emmanuel Macron and his US counterpart Joe Biden want China's help in "accelerating" the search for a solution to the war in Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron and US counterpart Joe Biden signalled in a telephone conversation on Tuesday their desire for China to help "accelerate" the search for a solution to the war in Ukraine, French diplomatic sources said, Agerpres.ro reports.

The discussion between the two heads of state took place hours before Emmanuel Macron left for a three-day state visit to China, to Beijing and then Guangzhou.

This conversation showed "the shared will of France and the United States to engage the Chinese to accelerate, together with us, the end of the war in Ukraine and build a lasting peace," according to the quoted source.

During the discussion, the US and French presidents also wanted to "get the Chinese to contribute to the global North-South solidarity effort" and "build a common climate and biodiversity agenda with China".

During his state visit to China on 5-7 April, Emmanuel Macron will hold talks with his counterpart Xi Jinping who, because of his closeness to Russian President Vladimir Putin, seems a decisive factor in efforts to find a solution to the war in Ukraine.
