Set up of the Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office, voted on in the first reading

A week after registration, the draft law on the set up of the Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office (PACCO) was approved in first reading with the vote of 61 deputies out of 84 deputies present.

The draft law on the set up of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the Fight against Organized Crime, a specialized institution designed to combat corruption, organized crime, terrorism and torture, was published on Thursday, February 13, having been registered a day earlier in Parliament.

We remind you that the draft law on the set-up of the new structure was subject to public consultations and sparked intense debates both in the public space and among law enforcement institutions. Also, the head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, Veronica Dragalin, announced her resignation and she criticized the draft law on the reorganization of specialized prosecutor's offices, which she described as "an attack on the justice system".

The initiative on the merger of the PA and the PCCOCS was announced by the Minister of Justice, Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, on January 29.
