Number of family doctors in Moldova could decrease
The Republic of Moldova is facing a shortage of about 200 family doctors, according to the Health Ministry. This is due to a number of factors, including the retirement of many family doctors and the lack of investment in the field.
The Health Ministry says that it is training only 16 family doctors this year, out of the total needed of about 200. This means that the number of family doctors could decrease even further in the coming years.
The shortage of family doctors is most acute in rural areas, where many villages do not have a doctor at all. This is a major problem, as family doctors provide essential primary care services to the population.
The Health Ministry says that it is working to address the shortage of family doctors. However, it will take time to train and recruit enough doctors to meet the needs of the population.
