Veaceslav Ioniță: The volume of consumer loans of the population decreased

The volume of consumer loans of the population offered by banks in the Republic of Moldova decreased during the past year, compared to 2021, when there was an increase of three billion lei, claims the economic expert, Veaceslav Ionita.

According to the economist, this fact was influenced by the tightening of the monetary policy by the National Bank and the decrease in the population's income.

"*The effect of the monetary policy, the increase in the price of money and the tightening of the conditions offered by the banks led to the fact that our population practically did not get accredited. The population in 2022 consumed less, in other words, the population's income in 2022 was lower. In 2021, the burden of loans increased by 250 million lei per month, an absolute historical record, but in 2022 we had a monthly decrease in the burden of consumer loans by 27 million lei", said Veaceslav Ionița.

He predicts that this year there will be an increase in the population's income. He specified that inflation will have a downward trend, and the National Bank will relax monetary policy.
