Experts: NATO expansion in Europe will weaken the Russian Federation's ability to destabilise Moldova

The expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance into Europe will weaken the Russian Federation's ability to destabilise the Republic of Moldova, say experts in Chisinau and Bucharest. According to them, Finland together with other NATO countries will further increase economic and military support for the development of our country's defence system.

Also, Russia's response to the Scandinavian country's accession to NATO will only be of a propaganda nature.

Moldova's security and resilience have been and are being discussed internationally at NATO meetings. Although a small state, Moldova is present in all high-level geostrategic decisions, says Bucharest-based military expert Virgil Bălăceanu.

According to him, as a partner of the North Atlantic Alliance, our country will continue to benefit from the support of the 31 NATO member countries.

"The Republic of Moldova is no longer in a shadow in terms of international relations, although it is a small state, it is very present in all discussions and decisions, both in terms of the European Union and NATO," said Virgil Bălăceanu.

Finland's membership in NATO will also have a positive effect for the Republic of Moldova in strengthening the country's defence system, said Anatol Șalaru, an expert from Chisinau.

"The Republic of Moldova will also benefit from Finland's support in strengthening the defence capacity and financial aid that NATO member countries are ready to provide to the Republic of Moldova. Russia is weakening, as a result of Finland's NATO membership, Russia's capacity to destabilise the Republic of Moldova will also weaken", concluded Anatol Șalaru.

Yesterday, Finland officially became the thirty-first member of NATO on the 74th anniversary of the North Atlantic Alliance. Alliance leader Jens Stoltenberg said Finland's membership of NATO would further guarantee the security of northern Europe. Moscow has described NATO's expansion to its borders as a violation of Russia's security and national interests. Experts in Chisinau and Bucharest believe that the measures to be taken by the Russian Federation will be of a propagandistic nature to justify the horrors and crimes it is now committing in Ukraine.
